BECOMING A LEADING PLAYER IN THE WORLD OF CONTRACT FURNITURE
Tradition meets modernity as the Group effects changes while retaining each subsidiary’s overall course of action. It is a question of protecting the strength of its businesses that are well-known market players while breathing new life into them thanks to the efforts of existing teams.
The Group’s Value Statements set the pace for our teams: they are fundamental values that are shared by every member of the Group.
Biens
The Roots of Kango; HMD’s Cornerstone Brand
The
HMD group acquired the Biens company, whose products are marketed under
the Kango brand. This company was granted the patent for the perch seat
design and manufactures professional seats for industrial and
laboratory use. Their greatest strengths are technical know-how and
ergonomic design.
When it was created 28 years ago, the Biens company was an 8-person
family business. Christophe Michaud took the reins in 2005 and breathed
new life into the company: new managerial organization, new commercial
policy, new logo, creation of an Internet site, new product lines, etc.
Although Biens is a relatively small structure, with a target of 2.1 M€ for 2010, its market impact is nonetheless considerable.

Civic
The
HMD group is seeking to become the uncontested European leader in the
field of professional seating. The acquisition of the Inducom group, and
in particular the Civic company, in May 2010, is the latest step
towards taking up this thrilling challenge. The HMD group, while already
a leader in the field of seating for the medical sector and unanimously
recognized for its office and technical seating, now adds another
feather in its cap: manufacturing and marketing seating and tables for
the public sector. Civic can meet all of the needs of the public sector
and the hospitality, meeting and restaurant industries thanks to its
extensive line of seats (wooden shell chairs, folding chairs, stools,
chauffeuses, sofas) and tables (fixed, folding, drop leaf, etc..), of
which a total of 70% is manufactured within the Group. In addition,
through its collaboration with the manufacturing firms Gpmi and Mec,
which are also part of the HMD group, Civic can also create custom-made
products to meet any client’s specific need. Thanks to its products and a
level of service that is unanimously appreciated, over the years Civic
has built up undisputed name recognition and a strong identity. Its
integration into the HMD Group will enable it to enjoy the Group’s
commercial benefits while retaining its brand identity.

Gpmi
Gpmi
specialises in wood and is currently the only company that can produce
components in stratified moulded wood, unfinished wood, wood with veneer
or wood with coatings of all types.
Since 1963, Gpmi has
specialized in the manufacture of industrial components for the
furniture sector, in particular for seating, and gradually came to adopt
wood as its material of choice. Our engineering and design department
and production unit closely collaborate to continuously develop new
sub-contracted products for the public, office, medical and housing
sectors. Three production sites with a total surface area of nearly
70,000 m² come into play at different stages of production, thus
ensuring Gpmi’s ability to exercise complete control over production,
from raw materials to finished product. Gpmi successfully blends
tradition and modernism and has high-performance production facilities
that can produce both very small and large runs, while adhering to the
most exacting standards. Above and beyond these standards, concern for
quality is a driving value at Gpmi and this manifests itself at all
levels, from the choice of materials to manufacturing techniques. By
working in collaboration with established designers, we can offer
products whose level of style is commensurate with their high quality
and our clients’ exacting standards. This is how Gpmi has positioned
itself as one of the leading suppliers to the furniture industry (seats,
tables, etc.) in France and in Europe.
Mec
As
part of HMD Group’s ambitious drive to expand, it has acquired the
Inducom Group, which is itself made up of three companies. One of these,
the Mec company, manufactures steel tube seat-rails and legs for tables
and chairs. In addition to the soldering and welding workshops that can
now be leveraged by HMD Group’s other subsidiaries, Mec’s production
facility is also equipped with an epoxy painting assembly line. The
entire facility adheres to EC standards.
The HMD Group’s know-how
also extends to all aspects of seat manufacturing, which ensures
complete control over product design and manufacturing.
